A whip smart skater who doesn’t like putting herself out there. Azar still feels the sting of rejection from her dad returning to Iran when his marriage broke up. Despite contact between them, she’s never been able to visit and he’s never been back.

Her mum, Lane, rarely mentions her own side of the family and when the story starts, Azar hasn’t seen her grandfather, Stan, for nine years.

Although she and her mum have always been close, with this latest trouble, it feels like Lane is abandoning Azar too.
